Karen Williams, Assistant Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator, at Claflin University, attended the NCAA Equity and Inclusion Forum in New Orleans, LA, April 29-May 2, 2012. This years' forum focused on, “Forty years after the passage of Title IX, improving women experiences in sports, through Title IX's participation in equal opportunities.” The three day event consisted of topics which reflect the concerns, attitudes, and efforts facing females in athletics today.

Richland Northeast High School has hired a new head girls' basketball coach. Precious Morris-Caldwell will join the Richland Northeast High team in July, not only as a coach but also as a physical education teacher. Morris-Caldwell currently holds the same positions at Eau Claire High School. There, she has coached her teams to five regional championships. Morris-Caldwell has also coached basketball at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, Edisto High School, Elloree High School and Claflin College. She has also served as a track and field coach.

The 50th Men's and 31st Women's NCAA National Track & Field Championship will be held May 24-26, 2012 in Pueblo, CO. Claflin University will have the honor of having five student-athletes competing in this two day event, to crown a national champion in 21 events for both men and women.

Claflin University held its, annual “Athletics Award Banquet” Sunday April 29, 2012, in the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center. Over 150 athletic, academic, conference, and NCAA II awards were handed out to the student-athletes in eleven sports sponsored by the university. The invitation only affair was witnessed by parents, student-athletes, athletics department staff, faculty and staff of the university, board of trustees members, alumni, individual supporters of the athletics department Orange Maroon Athletics Association(OMASA), and other stakeholders of Claflin University.
