Four Claflin Players Named to the SIAC Preseason Baseball Team

Atlanta, Ga. (2-5-15)—Four Claflin University baseball players were named to the 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) preseason team. Senior Justin Vreeland, junior Sixto Guerrero along with sophomores Darius Boykins and Rashad Bivens all earned preseason honors.

Vreeland a 6-2, 185lb, pitcher from Myrtle Beach, S.C., recorded 5-1 win-loss record with a 2.38 ERA in 45.1 innings pitch. He gave up 47 hits with only one homerun. He struck 30 batters and recorded one shutout.

Guerrero was named to the 2014 SIAC Second Team All-Conference. The 6-3, 195lb, Jr., who hails from Sarasota, Fla., started all 43 games last season. He finished the season with a .303 batting average, .470 slugging percentage, and a .450 on-base percentage and a fielding percentage of .963. He recorded 37 runs with 40 hits, 10 doubles, three triples, and two home-runs.

Boykins, a 5-8, 170lb, pitcher from Houtson, Texas, had a .500 win-loss record at 4-4. He had 11 plate appearances with two complete games in six starts. In 38.2 innings pitched, he gave up only six doubles, one triple and four homeruns.

Bivens, a 5-9, 205lb, infielder, finished the season with a .321 batting average. He had 40 starts in 42 games played. He crossed the plate 26 times with 44 hits, 12 doubles, two triples and five homeruns. He finished last season with a .547 slugging percentage, .382 on-base percentage and a .855 field percentage.

The Panthers, who finished the season with a 24-19 overall record and 14-6 in the SIAC, opened split their season opener with Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday (Feb. 3).
