Albany, Ga. (Apr. 20-22) —The Claflin University women's track and field team scored 58 points including several top five finishes en route to placing fifth this past weekend at the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Championships were held in Albany, Ga., this past Friday-Sunday, Apr. 20-22. All field events were contested on the campus of Albany State University while Hugh Mills Stadium hosted all running events.
Sophomore Faith McKie led the way for the Claflin, capturing gold in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:01.82. McKie ran a season-best 1:01.69 in the prelims which provisionally qualified her for the 2018 NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for May 24-26 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. McKie also captured silver in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.79.
Senior Arnesha Brown was the only other individual athlete to finish in the medals. Brown finished 2nd in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.21 meters.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Ayannah Harrell, Brandi McGrady, McKie and Jamaica Miller clocked a 4:01.43 to capture the bronze medal.
Also scoring points in the meet for the Lady Panthers were Daija Pegues (4th-400 meter dash, 8th-200 meter dash), Jamaica Miller (5th-10,000 meters, 6th-3,000 meters, 8th-1,500 meters), Da;Ja Smalls (6th-Long Jump, 8th-Triple Jump), and Ayannah Harrell (4th-Heptathlon, 7th in the Javelin Throw).
