Five Panthers Named to USTFCCCA All-Region Team
NEW ORLEANS, LA - A season full of hard work paid off, Wednesday, when five members of the Claflin University men's indoor track & field team were named to the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2024 USTFCCCA All-Region Teams. The Panthers earned their spots on the team for ranking among the top five individuals and the top three relay teams in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.
On the track, the Panthers had several honorees. Claflin senior
Chandar Anderson led the way for the Panthers, ranking second in the region in the men's 400m dash with a 47.98. Fellow senior
Zion Murry ranked fifth in the event with a 48.45. Sophomore
Jonathan Flemister ranks third in the men's 200m dash with a 21.35. The Panthers' 4x400m relay team, which featured all three sprinters along with sophomore
Jaevon Riley, earned all-region honors with the second-best time in the region with a 3:13.22.
In field events, Claflin junior jumper
Jocolbi Morgan earned all-region honors in three different events. His best performance was in the men's long jump with a 24'5.75" (7.46m) leap that earned him a spot in the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet. He led the region in the triple jump with a 48'11.75" (14.93m) and he tied for fourth in the men's high jump with a 6'7.75" (2.03m) leap.
The Panthers will turn their efforts toward the 2024 outdoor track & field season, which will begin at the Susan Rouse Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan University.
