Orangeburg, SC- Clark Atlanta (6-10) avenged the loss they suffered on their home court last week, and defeated the Panthers of Claflin University (7-9) in a close SIAC contest 55-52.

The close contest got exciting with 3:37 left as Claflin who fought an uphill battle all night to take a lead, which they had not enjoyed since the 13:421 mark in the first half with the score 15-13.  With Claflin down by 3 points 48-45 Terrence Bowman hit a 3 point basket from deep in the corner to tie the contest for the 3rd and final time.  After a steal by Jermille Fluker and he raced down the floor for an easy lay-up, and was fouled on the play.  Fluker made the free throw for a 51-48 Clark Atlanta lead, with 3:27 left.  The next 2 minutes neither team would score until Marcus Jefferies was fouled in the act of shooting and made good on both free throws to close the gap to 50-51, with 1:14 remaining.  Claflin' s David glover fouled Antonio Burch in the act of shooting, as Burch increase the Clark Atlanta lead back to 3 points 53-50 with two free throws.  Claflin came to within a point, 53-52, on two free throws by Glover, with 15 seconds showing on the game clock.  Royce Hamilton made a crucial jumper for Clark Atlanta for the final margin of victory, 55-52.

The first half was just as closely contested as the largest lead by Clark Atlanta was 8 points and Claflin largest lead was 7 points.  The glaring stat for Claflin in the first 20 minutes was their free throw shooting percentage.  Claflin was just 44% (4-9), while Clark Atlanta went 4-4 for 100%.

Hamilton and Burch led Clark Atlanta with 11 points each.

Edward Green led all scorers with a game high 14 points for Claflin.  Glover added 10 points in the losing cause.
