Claflin Travels to Benedict for SIAC Softball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team will travel to Columbia, S.C. tomorrow, Wednesday, Apr. 2, to take on Benedict in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) softball doubleheader.  First pitch for tomorrow's contest is set for 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Park in Columbia.  This will be the first of two back-to-back road contests for the Lady Panthers.
 
Claflin (28-5, 12-2 SIAC)  has two players averaging .500 or better as Markea Sheppard is hitting .510 and Amanda Evans is batting .500 on the season.  Sheppard has as also recorded 49 hits, including six homeruns, with 43 RBI's.  As a team, the Lady Panthers are batting .371.
 
Benedict, who enters the contest at 15-12 overall and 2-6 in the SIAC, is led by Sabriya Brooks who is averaging .559.  Jasmin Sledge is averaging .466 and Bergearia Major is batting .446 for Benedict who is averaging .360 as a team.
 
The Lady Panthers will travel Sumter, S.C. on Thursday, Apr. 2 to take on the Hornets of Morris College in a non-conference doubleheader.
