Claflin University Falls to Albany State in the Elimination Game of the 2014 SIAC Softball Tournament

Hampton, Ga.—The Claflin University softball team fell to Albany State, 4-14, in the elimination game of the 2014 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) softball tournament.  The Lady Panthers finishes its historic season with a 43-8 overall record and an 18-3 conference record and third place in the SIAC.
 
Albany State took control of the contest early, scoring nine runs off seven hits and two Lady Panther errors.  Two of the nine runs came via an illegal pitch by Claflin's pitcher Amanda Evans. The Lady Panthers got three of the runs back in the bottom of the inning, as they scored three runs off one hit and two Lady Golden Rams errors, to cut the deficit to 3-9.  Albany State put up three more runs in the top of the second to push its lead back to nine, 3-12.  A sacrifice fly by Markea Sheppard scored Kayla Sanderson to get one of the runs pack to put the score at 4-12 by the end of the second.  Homeruns by the Lady Golden Rams Chaconna Marks and Kayla Alexander in the top of the fifth gave Albany State its biggest lead of the game, 10 runs, 4-14, which is also the margin of victory.
 
Alice Boone led the way for Claflin going 2-for-2 with one RBI.   Kayla Sanderson went 1-for-2 with one run.  Helen Keevy was the losing pitcher and finishes the season at 16-1. 
 
Marks went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI's. Kayla Anderson went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI's in the victory.  Alexa Lopez picked up the win the game.
 
Albany State advances to the championship game versus Tuskegee.
