Claflin Falls to LeMoyne-Owen in SIAC Men’s Basketball Contest

Orangeburg, S.C.— The Claflin University men's basketball team fell to LeMoyne-Owen, 64-73, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest in Tullis Arena.  With the loss, the Panthers fall to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC.  The Magicians improves to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC.

Claflin was led by Carlton Johnson who came off the bench to score 13.  Patrell Rogers and Darris Dunston scored 10 points each while Ryan McNeill-Moses pulled in a game high seven rebounds for the Panthers.  Kendall Jackson came off the bench to play solid for Claflin connecting on all four of his field-goal attempts and 1-of-2 free-throws for nine points.  Jackson along with Reginald Baptiste pulled in five rebounds for the Panthers in the losing effort.

Dequan Mitchell-Fields scored a game-high 18 points and Jean Mathieu pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds to lead LeMoyne-Owen.  Mathieu scored nine points while Jerry Hampton contributed seven points and eight rebounds in the win.

Claflin will begin a three-game road swing this Thursday, Jan. 8 at Kentucky State.  The Panthers will face Lane College (Dec. 10) and Stillman (Dec. 12) before returning home next Thursday, Jan. 15 when they host SIAC newcomers Spring Hill College.
