Claflin Rolls Past Fort Valley State in Men’s Basketball

Orangeburg, S.C. – Patrell Rogers led three players in double-figures with a game-high 23 points, as the Claflin University Panthers rolled past the Fort Valley State Wildcats, 80-65, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic (SIAC) conference game Saturday at the Tullis Arena.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 11-6 in the SIAC and 14-12 overall. The victory also marked the third time this season Claflin has won three straight games.

"This was another big win for us," Claflin Coach Ricky Jackson said. "We came out and played hard. I told our players, you can't take a team for granted at this time of the season just because of its record. Everybody is hunting for you.

Jackson continued, "I was also pleased with our offensive production, but winning by 15 points is the same as winning by one. The main thing is get a win."

Rogers finished the game with four three-pointers and was perfect at the free throw line in five attempts.

Following Rogers in the scoring column for the Panthers were Adolph "AJ" Caldwell with 16 points and Carlton Johnson who came off the bench to score 15 points.
