Claflin Sweeps Lincoln in a Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University combined for 45 runs en route to sweeping Lincoln University (Pa.) in a non-conference softball double-header in Orangeburg, S.C.  The Lady Panthers, who played in their first game since Feb. 8, shout-out the Lady Lions in both games, winning 26-0 and 19-0.
 
With the win,  Claflin improves to 6-2 overall while the Lincoln drops to 0-2 on their short season.
 
In Game One, Claflin scored eight runs in the first, 17 in the second and one run in the fourth en route to its 17 runs.  The Lady Panthers put up 15 hits -- including three doubles, one triple and three homeruns, two by Chelsa Hall—with 18 RBI's.
 
The Lady Panthers opened Game Two with 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Claflin scored one run in the second, one run in the third and six runs in the fourth for its 19 runs.  Markea Sheppard paced the Lady Panthers with three runs off four hits including a double and homerun with four RBI's.  Courtney Burns scored four runs off two hits, including a homerun, and two RBI's.  Collectively Claflin had 11 hits and 13 RBI's for the game.
 
Claflin will open its Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SIAC) play this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Feb.  27-28.  First pitch for Friday's single game is set for a 5 p.m.  Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 2 p.m. first-pitch.
