Claflin Sweeps Paine in Softball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University swept Paine College, 16-0 and 19-4, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader.  With the doubleheader win, the Lady Panthers completes the series sweep of Paine and improves to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC.
 
Paine drops to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC.
 
Claflin was led on the day by Amaris Gilchrease and Alice Boone who each went 3 for 4.  Gilchrease hit back-to-back homeruns in Game Two, a three-run homer and a two-run shot.  She also recorded six RBI's and scored three runs.  Boone hit a Grand Slam in bottom of the third inning of Game One.  She finished Game One with five RBI's and two runs.    Collectively, the Lady Panthers recorded 35 runs, 25 hits and 31 RBI's in the doubleheader.
 
Nyesha Arnold who pitched nine and two-thirds innings picked up the wins for both games.  Arnold struck-out 13 batters on the day.
 
Destiny Conyers, Alandra White and Courtney Taylor all scored two runs over the doubleheader for Paine.  Ashandria Henry was the losing pitcher in Game One while Courtney Taylor was credited with the loss in Game Two.
 
Claflin have five days off from competition before traveling to Jacksonville, Fla. to face Edward Waters on March 6.  The Lady Panthers will then travel to Vero Beach, Fla. to participate in the Historic Dodger Tournament March 8-10.
