Claflin (11-10, 8-4 SIAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before pushing its lead to 9-4 at the 15:10 mark.  Paine (14-5, 10-2 SIAC) quickly countered with an 8-2 run to take the one-point advantage, 12-11, with 13:31 remaining in the half.  Adolph Caldwell hit a jumper one minute later which sparked an 11-3 run to put the Panthers ahead by six, 21-15, midway thru the half.  Claflin pushed its lead to 24-19 before the Lions went on their second run of the half.  Paine used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one, 28-27, at the 5:49 mark.  Paine closed the half on a 14-6 run to pull within one, 34-33, at intermission.

The Panthers remained aggressive to start the second half.  Claflin opened the half with a 6-0 run to go up, 40-33, to regain the momentum.  The Panthers defense was equally as solid, keeping Paine at a solid distance throughout most of the half.  The Lions did however have one last run left in them.  Paine used a 15-2 run over the last two minutes to tie the game 65-65 and force overtime.

Paine scored first in overtime, but the Panthers quickly responded scoring the next three points to take the one point lead, 68-67.  The Lions then scored the next five points to take a 69-72 advantage.  A short jumper by Paine's Nathan Powell with 1:17 remaining gave the Lions the 74-69 lead, but a three-pointer by Claflin's Montel Williams less than 30 seconds later cut the deficit to two, with 57 seconds remaining in overtime.  A traditional three-point play by Denzel Dillingham with 43.9 seconds remaining gave the Lions the three-point advantage, 77-74.  Fare'al Walker hit two-free throws with 14.1 seconds remaining to pull the Panthers within one, 76-77.  Paine took another three-point lead off two free throws by Don Quarles with 7.4 seconds remaining.  A three-point attempt at the buzzer by Montel Williams bounced off the rim, giving the Lions the three-point victory.
