Claflin University Softball Goes 1-1 on Elimination Friday of the 2015 SIAC Tournament

Columbia, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team defeated Albany State, 10-7,  and fell to Stillman, 1-10, in its second elimination game of the 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament.  With the loss, the Lady Panthers finish the season with a 21-16 overall record.  Stillman advanced to face Miles College in an elimination Game.
 
Claflin scored the first run of Game Two but could not get any other offense going.  Stillman manage to score in four-of-five innings of the game.  The Lady Tigers put up two runs in the second, two in third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth en route to the 1-10 win which eliminated the Lady Panthers from tournament.
 
Senior Alice Boone scored Claflin's lone run off an error by Stillman's second baseman. Nyesha Arnold, who went two and a third innings was credited to the loss for Claflin.  Jessica Matthews had three runs with three hits and two RBI's to lead the Lady Tigers in the win.   Mickenzie Sparks pitched four innings giving up one run and the lone hit for the Lady Panthers. 
 
In game one of the day, Claflin fell behind 1-4 by the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Panthers put up one run in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one, 3-4.  After both teams went scoreless in the fourth, Albany State put up three runs in the fifth to push its lead to 3-7.  The bottom of the fifth proved to be a breakout inning for Claflin, as they scored seven runs off four hits and three Lady Rams errors to take a 10-7 lead.  The teams went scoreless over the next one and a half inning.
 
Markea Sheppard went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI's to pace Claflin.  Courtney Burns had a home run and two RBI's and Erin Lipps, who pitched a complete game, was credited with the win.  Ambrionna Atkism went 2-for-4 with one run and three RBI's to lead Albany State.  Chelsea Hicks was the losing pitcher for the Lady Rams.
