Claflin Cruise Past Livingstone in the Shaw University Men’s Basketball Classic

Raleigh, N.C.—The Claflin University men's basketball team defeated Livingstone College, 91-75, in the opening game of the Shaw University Basketball Classic in Raleigh, N.C.  The Panthers, who improve to 6-4 on the season, will face host Shaw in the Classic on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m.  Live stats for the game will be available at http://www.shawbears.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/boxscores/20161229_hgwa.xml
 
Livingstone will face Benedict College at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
 
Ryan McNeill-Moses led four Claflin players in double-figures with a game-high 16 points.  McNeill-Moses also led the Panthers on the boards with six. Tristan Thompson and Trevor Dantzler dropped in 15 each while Kobie Williams added 12 points in the win.
 
Livingstone (2-7) was led by David Duncan with 15 points.  The Blue Bears had five players to record double-figures as Roger Ray scored 13, Ramel Belfield and Emarri Bailey had 12 apiece and Jimmy Wilson contributed 11 in the loss.
 
Claflin scored the first eight points of the second half.  The run allowed the Panthers to take its then biggest lead of the game, 17 points (48-31), with 16:50 remaining. 
 
Livingstone picked up its offensive intensity using a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to 10, 51-41, with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game. 
 
Claflin offense remained poised, using a 10-3 run of their own to push the lead back to 17, 61-44 at the 11:30 mark.
 
The Panthers enjoyed its largest lead of the game 26 (85-59), with just over three minutes left.  The Blue Bears managed to cut the lead to 15 (89-74), late in the game, before falling by the 16 point margin.
 
McNeill-Moses hit a layup at the 18:31 mark to spark an 11-0 run to open the game.  McNeill-Moses scored eight of the team 11 points during the run.
 
After Livingstone scored four straight points, Claflin offense went back to work.  The Panthers scored the next six of eight points to push the lead back to 11, 17-6, with 12:40 remaining in the half.
 
The Blue Bears made a mid-half run, scoring 12 of the next 14 points to pull within one, 19-18, with just over seven minutes remaining in the half.
 
Claflin out-scored Livingstone 11-3 over the next four minutes to increase the lead to nine, 30-21, with 3:02 left.   

Both teams scored 10 points each the rest of the way with the Panthers owning the nine point advantage at intermission, 40-31.
