Claflin Falls to USC-Aiken in Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Aiken, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team fell to USC-Aiken 5-0 and 3-2, in a non-conference doubleheader at the JH Satcher Field in Aiken, S.C.  With the loss, the Lady Panthers falls to 0-6 on the short season.
 
In Game one, USC-Aiken put up one run in the first and second innings and three in the fifth en route to its 5-0 win.  Claflin knocked out six hits over the seven innings.  Tiaria Norman had two hits while Chelsea Hall, Shaquilla German, Jamelah Thomas and Daijah Gaither all had one hit in the game.
 
Sarah Montei was the top run producer in Game One for USC-Aiken scoring two runs off two hits with one RBI.  Hannah Price scored one run with one hit and three RBI's in the contest.  Leah Boghosi and Samantha Chu scored one run apiece for the Pacers in the win.
 
LaKaylin Lee was the losing pitcher of record while Taylor Morgan picked up the win for USC-Aiken.
 
Game Two was more competitive for Claflin.  Hall led off the game with a doubled to right-center.  Hall then stole third and scored on an error by the catcher to give the Lady Panthers the 1-0 advantage by the middle of the first.  Claflin's defense was equally as solid in the game.  The Lady Panthers held the Pacers scoreless over the first four innings of the game.  USC-Aiken had a breakout fifth inning.  The Pacers put up three runs off three hits with one Claflin error as they took the 3-2 lead heading into the sixth.
 
Lee doubled to start the sixth and eventually scored on a wild pitch to pull the Lady Panthers within one, 3-2.  Claflin was held scoreless in the seventh en route to the one run loss.
 
Chandler Terp picked up the win in Game Two while Norman was the losing pitcher of note.
 
Claflin will return to action Tuesday, Feb. 16 when they host Shaw University in its 2016 home-opener.  First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.
