Claflin Defeats Clark-Atlanta in Weekend Softball Conference Series

Orangeburg, S.C. (Apr. 8-9) —The Claflin University softball team closed out its 2016 home season with a three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game sweep of Clark Atlanta.  The Lady Panthers defeated Clark Atlanta 14-4 in a single game on Friday (Apr. 8) and defeated Clark Atlanta, 11-2 and 8-0, in a double-header on Saturday.    
 
After the series, Claflin sits at 28-19 overall and 15-3 in the SIAC.
 
Jamelah Thomas paced Claflin in the opening game of series, putting up two runs off three hits with three RBI's.  Jasmine Squirewell scored two runs with one hit and two RBI's in the 10 run victory.  Tiaria Norman pitched all five innings en route to picking up the victory.
 
Squirewell continued to thrive in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader, scoring two runs with two hits, including a homerun, and four RBI's.  Thomas also stayed consistent in the opening game on day two, as she scored two runs with one hit and one RBI.  Shaquailla German pitched six innings allowing just two hits with 12 strikeouts to pick up the win.
 
Chelsea Hall led off the final game of the series with a home run.  Hall, who finished the game with three runs off three hits and one RBI, was one of the offensive powerhouses in the final game.  Chelise Morman bat came to life in the final game.  She scored three runs, including two homeruns, with two hits and five RBI's in the win.  Nyesha Arnold picked up the win for the Lady Panthers.
 
Claflin will return to action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Apr. 14 and 15, when they travel to Columbia, S.C. to face rivals Benedict College in a three-game SIAC series.  The Lady Panthers will close out the regular series at Albany State, on April 21, in a makeup game.
