Claflin Men’s Basketball Win Streak Goes to Seven with Win Over Spring Hill

Mobile, Ala.—Ryan McNeill-Moses scored 14 of his game high 16 points in the second half, as the Claflin University men's basketball team defeated Spring Hill College, 67-54, Monday, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchup in Mobile, Ala.
 
The win, the seventh straight, pushes the Panthers to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the SIAC.
 
Spring Hill falls to 3-14 and 2-4 in the SIAC.
 
Triston Thompson scored 15 points and Austin Lawton dropped in 12 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Panthers. 
 
McNeill-Moses also paced the Panthers on the boards with six.  Thompson, Lawton and Benjamin Williams all pulled in five rebounds in the win.
 
Spring Hill was led by Walter Massey with 14 and six rebounds.  Brandon Fischer scored 10 points with six rebounds for the Badgers in the loss.
 
Gresyn Rogers dropped in eight points while Chase Shellman contributed seven points and six rebounds in the loss.
 
Claflin and Spring Hill exchanged the lead over the first three minutes of the second half obtaining the fifth tie of the game, 34-all, with 17:17 remaining. 
 
A steal by Thompson that led to a McNeill-Moses layup gave the Panthers the lead for good, 36-34, with 15:57 remaining in the contest.
 
Claflin used a 12-1 run over a three minute period to open the game and take an 11 point lead, 46-35, with 12:44 remaining.
 
The Panthers would take their largest lead of the game 16 points twice en route to the 13 point victory
 
After exchanging the lead over the first minute of the game, Claflin offensive picked up its intensity.  The Panthers went on a 9-0 run to take a six point lead, 10-4, at the 17:27 mark. 
 
Claflin pushed its lead to nine on two occasions, before Spring Hill gained some offensive momentum.
 
The Badgers used a 12-3 to tie the game at 19-19 with 6:25 remaining in the first half.  A layup just 12 seconds by Jared Holland gave Spring Hill the two point lead, 21-19.
 
The teams exchanged the lead for the remainder of the half with the Badgers owning a one point advantage, 28-27, at the half.
 
The Panthers will travel to the state of Georgia for their next two SIAC contests beginning next Saturday, Jan. 21, when they face Albany State.  Claflin will face Fort Valley State (Monday, Jan. 23) before returning home on Saturday, Jan. 28 to host Paine, in a SIAC contest.
