Claflin Men Defeat Saint Augustine’s on the Road

Raleigh, N.C. – The Claflin University men's basketball team defeated Saint Augustine's University, 69-54, in a non-conference road game.  The win pushes the Panthers record to 3-1 on the season.  Saint Augustine's remain winless at 0-5.
 
Jaleel Charles paced Claflin with 14 points, nine rebounds and one block.
 
Jordan Jones came off the bench to drop in 12 points, all three-pointers, while Benjamin "Tre" Williams added 10 points, including two three-pointers in the victory.
 
Austin Lawton added nine points and five rebounds and Triston Thompson scored six points with six rebounds in the win.
 
Saint Augustine's was led by Tyre Gathright who scored 16 points with four rebounds.  D.J. Harrison scored eight points for the Falcons in the loss.
 
As a team, Claflin shot 59 percent from behind the arc and 54 percent from the charity stripe.
 
Saint Augustine's finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Claflin led by one, 26-25, at the half.
 
The Panthers will return to action Saturday, Nov. 25 when they travel to Jackson, Tenn. to take on Lane College in its 2017-18 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opener.
