Orangeburg, S.C. -- The Claflin University men's basketball team will hit the road for two games against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division opponents.
 
First up for Claflin will be Central State University (CSU) on Saturday (Dec. 30) in Wilberforce, Ohio at 3 p.m. inside the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium. The road trip concludes Monday (Jan. 1) against Kentucky State University (KSU) at 7:30 p.m. at the Exum Center
 
The Panthers will enter the matchup with CSU riding an 11-game win streak for a 12-1 overall record. The victory total also includes a perfect 8-0 road record, of which four were against SIAC teams.
 
Claflin along with Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University sit atop of the East Division at 5-0.
 
In their last outing, the Panthers routed Spring Hill College 79-52 on (Dec. 16th) in Orangeburg. In that contest, Austin Lawton led a balanced scoring attack for the Panthers with 14 points.
 
Claflin, which is averaging 72 points as a team, is led offensively by Jaleel Charles with 15.8 points and Benjamin "Tre" Williams at 12.8 points.
 
Triston Thompson and Lawton are averaging just under double-digits in scoring for the Panthers at 8.1 points apiece.
 
One of the strong suit for Claflin this season has been its defense, where the Panthers ranks first in the league allowing just at 61.1 points. In SIAC competition, Claflin is holding league teams to an average of 56.2 points.
 
The Panthers defense is led by two of the conference's top shot-blockers in the Austin, who leads the SIAC with 25, and Charles at 22. As a team, Claflin is tied along with Paine College for the most blocks at 67.
 
CSU are 4-7 on the season, including 3-3 in the SIAC. CSU has lost its last three games.
 
The Marauders are led by Chris Scott, who leads the team in scoring at 17.0 points and rebounds at 8.8 a game.
 
As for KSU, the Thorobreds will take a 3-10 and 2-4 into its encounter with Benedict College at home on Saturday (Dec. 30).
 
Dorian Jordan leads the Thorobreds in scoring at 16.3 points and a league high 7.9 assists per game.
