Claflin Sweeps Fayetteville State in Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Fayetteville, N.C.--The Claflin University softball team swept Fayetteville State, 8-0 and 13-3, in a non-conference doubleheader at the Lamon St. Park in Fayetteville.
 
With the wins, the Lady Panthers improved to 4-10 overall.  The Broncos dropped to 1-7 overall.
 
Claflin dominated game one both offensively and defensively.  The Lady Panthers used three runs in the second and three in the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead after four innings.  Claflin tacked on two additional runs in the top of the sixth en route to the eight run six inning victory.
 
In addition to holding the Broncos scoreless, Claflin defense held Fayetteville State to just three hits over the six innings.
 
The Lady Panthers was led offensively by Kaela Robinson who went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI double.
 
 Kayla Cato went 2-for-4 with a run and LaKaylin Lee had one run with a hit and a RBI.
 
Freshman Jada Ames was also productive at the plate going 2-for-2 including a double with a run.
 
Tiaria Norman, recorded eight strikeouts to pick up the game one win.
 
Claflin scored in six out of seven innings in game two.  The Lady Panthers put up one run in the second and fifth, two runs in the third and sixth, three in the fourth and four in the seventh inning en route to the
 
Fayetteville State did manage a little offense in game two.  The Broncos three runs with six hits including two doubles.
 
Lee continued to have a hot bat knocking out three hits, including a homerun, with three runs.
 
The Lady Panthers had three homeruns in game two as Norman and Chelise Morman each went long in the contest.
 
Ames also continued to play solid finishing the game with two doubles in three at-bats with two runs.
 
Lee pitched a complete game en route to picking up her first win of the season.
 
Claflin will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24 when they host Queens College in a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Adden Street Field.
