Claflin Drops Doubleheader to USC-Aiken in Final Game of the Season

Aiken, S.C. – The Claflin University softball team closed out its 2018 season with a doubleheader road loss to USC-Aiken, dropping game one 4-3 in eight innings and falling in game two 4-0 at J.H. Satcher Field in Aiken, S.C.
 
With the losses, Claflin falls to 24-27 overall while USC-Aiken improves to 14-34 on the season.
 
Kayla Cato, led off game one with a double to left field then stole third.  Cato scored Claflin first run of the game off a Kaela Robinson double to second base.
 
Brielle Jungblunt led off USC-Aiken half of the first with a single to short stop. After advancing to second on a sac bunt, Jungblunt stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to tie the game at 1-all.
 
Claflin put up one run in each of the fourth and fifth to take 3-1 by the middle of the fifth.
 
The Pacers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game once again, 3-3.
 
The game remained tied through regulation.
 
After holding the Lady Panthers scoreless in the top of the eighth, Maci Hutto doubled to center field and advanced to third on a sing to right field by Lyndie Dorgan.  With two outs and two on, Jungblunt singled down the leftfield line to Hutto for the winning run.
 
Jada Ames paced Claflin in game one with one run and two hits, including a double, while Cato finished the game with one run and one hit.
 
Jungblunt had four hits, two runs, and the winning RBI.
 
Chandler Terrapin (2-3) was the winning pitcher while Tiaria Norman (18-14) was the losing pitcher of record.
 
Game two belonged solely to the Pacers, as Claflin finished the game with just one hit.
 
USC-Aiken knocked out eight hits en route to its four runs.  Terrapin had three hits and Jungblunt and Hannah Price had two hits each in the win.
 
Price was also the winning pitcher, finishing the game with a one-hit shutout and Yemaya Rich was the losing pitcher in game two.
