North Georgia Sweeps Claflin in Non-conference Softball Doubleheader

Dahlonega, Ga.—The Claflin University softball team could not find much offense as they dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the University of North Georgia (UNG) Nighthawks falling 10-0 and 9-1.  
 
The losses drops the Lady Panthers to 14-24 overall while UNG improved to 42-1.
 
Claflin was unable to record any hits and only had three base runners in game one.  Tiaria Norman and Jada Ames reached base via walks while Kayla Cato reached via a hit by pitch.
 
UNG offense was solid in the game, as they put up seven hits en route to their 10 runs.
 
Shaquailla German, who went three and two-thirds inning, was credited with the loss.
 
Kylee Smith the winning pitcher of record.
 
Claflin found a little offense in game two as they managed four hits with four base runners.  
 
With two outs in the top of the third, Kaela Robinson knocked a single up the middle for the Lady Panthers first hit on the day.  Cato followed that with the second straight single up the middle to put two runners on the pads with two outs.
 
LaKaylin Lee hit an RBI single to second base to score Robinson to put Claflin on the board. Cato was thrown out trying to advance to third for the Lady Panthers third out of the inning.
 
UNG's defense kept Claflin off the base pads until the fifth inning when Jamelah Thomas hit a single to right field with two outs.
 
Tiaria Norman was the losing pitcher in game two while Riley Patton was the winning pitcher.
 
The Lady Panthers will have two days to regroup before returning to action this Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 7-8, when they host Fort Valley State in a three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series.
 
First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. while Sunday single game will have a 2 p.m. first pitch.
