Claflin SAAC and Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Host 2018 Gang Prevention Conference

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in conjunction with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety will host the 2018 Gang Prevention Conference, Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center on the campus of Claflin University.
 
This is the second straight year the two departments have collaborated on the project.
 
Last year's conference was a success as there were more than 1000 5th and 6th graders from Orangeburg County School Districts 3, 4, & 5 were in attendance. 
 
The conference, which will once again feature over than 1,000 5th and 6th graders from Orangeburg County School Districts of 3, 4, & 5, will run from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
 
The mission of the conference once again is to create a safe community environment for the citizens of Orangeburg County through violence education, intervention and prevention.  In addition, the conference will contain activities that will reduce and eliminate gang involvement through collaboration and relationships with schools, institutions, and social/civic organizations.
 
Volunteers from the conference will include members of the Claflin University SAAC committee as well as other Claflin student-athletes and coaches.
 
The conference, will be highlighted with motivational speakers as well as live performances.
