Claflin Drops Non-Conference Game to Bowie State

Bowie, Md. -- The Claflin University men's basketball win streak was halted at two, as they dropped a non-conference contest to Bowie State University, 67-53, at the A.C. Jordan Arena on the campus of Bowie State. 
 
The loss, drops the Panthers to 4-7 on the season while Bowie State improves to 6-6 on the season.
 
The teams will meet again on Saturday, Jan. 11 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) game in Orangeburg.
 
Claflin will return to action next Wednesday, Dec. 18, when they host St. Augustine's University in a CIAA Southern Division contest.  The game, which is set to tip-off at approximately 4 p.m., is free and open to the public and will be held at Tullis Arena inside the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Complex.
 
Letrell West continued to pace Claflin, finishing with 16 points -- his eighth double-digit performance and sixth straight.  Nine of West points came from behind the three-point arc.
 
Romero Hill was the next closest scorer with seven points.
 
Bowie State was led by Cameron Hayes with 13 points.
 
The Bulldogs had four players to finish in double-figures as David Bell, Justin Route and Saiquan Jamison all dropped in 11 points.  Jamison and Kani Coles had a game-high nine rebounds in the contest.
 
Claflin finished the game shooting 35.3 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from behind the three-point arc and 62.5 percent from the charity stripe.
 
Bowie was slightly better in all categories as the Bulldogs finished shooting 45.8 percent from the field, 36.8 from the three-point arc and 72.7 from the free-throw line.
 
Claflin trailed 33-22 at the half.
