Claflin Remains Undefeated at the 2019 CIAA Softball Round-Up

Elizabeth City, N.C. – The Claflin University softball team remained undefeated in the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-up, defeating Virginia Union University 11-2 and Lincoln (PA) 16-0 on day two of the Round-up.
 
Claflin will close out the Round-up on Sunday, Mar. 17, against Chowan University at 10 a.m. and host Elizabeth City State University at 12:15 p.m. at the South Park Athletic Complex in Elizabeth City, N.C.
 
With the wins, the Lady Panthers improve to 17-12 overall and remain undefeated in the conference at 6-0.
 
Claflin dominated both games on the day.  Over the two games, Claflin collected 24 hits, including five doubles, one triple, and two homeruns, one by Shaniya Thomas in game one and one by Sametra Duck in game two.
 
The Lady Panthers allowed just three hits over the two games, two by Virginia Union and one by Lincoln while recording 23 RBIs on the day, 10 in game one and 13 in game two.
 
Thomas was the winning pitcher in game one, going all seven innings, allowing two hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.
 
Yemaya Rich allowed just one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts to pick up the game two win.
