Chambers Named CIAA Pitcher of the Week; Goins Named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, NC - After going a perfect 6-0 at the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Round Up, the honors came rolling in for the Claflin University Lady Panthers. Senior pitcher
Bre'Zhay Chambers was named the Food Lion CIAA Pitcher of the Week while fellow senior
Marion Goins was honored as the Food Lion CIAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Chambers earned the Pitcher of the Week honor after putting on a dominating pitching performance for the Lady Panthers. She went a perfect 3-0 as a starter and she earned a save in four total pitching appearances for the Lady Panthers. She finished the weekend with a 0.32 earned run average (ERA) and one earned run (two total). She also recorded 34 strikeouts in 22.1 innings.
At the other end of many of Chambers' pitches was senior catcher
Marion Goins who was honored as the Food Lion Defensive Player of the Week. She finished the weekend with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. She recorded 58 putouts with eight assists. She also caught three runners stealing during the weekend as well.
