Panthers Post Strong Performances at GS Spring Classic
STATESBORO, GA - The Claflin Panthers are showing some steady improvements after some great performances at the Georgia Southern Spring Classic. The team had some great performances both on the track and in field events at the meet.
On the track, the Panthers saw some strong performances both in sprints and middle distance events. Sophomore Zion Murry took a first place finish in the men's 800m run with a 1:56.00 while junior
Caleb Patterson added a first place finish in the men's 5000m run. He totaled a 19:09.02 in the event. Senior
LaCarlos Watlington took first place in the men's 400m hurdles as well. The Panthers 4x100m relay team also had a terrific day when the won the event with a 42.69.
The Panthers also had a great day in field events as well. Freshman
Jocolbi Morgan set the tone with a first place finish in the men's high jump. He recorded a 6'6" (1.98m) height to earn the top spot. Junior
Jamario James added a first place finish of his own in the men's shot put. He had a 38' 6.75" (11.75m) throw to claim the top spot. The Panthers also took both second and third place in the event. Senior
Matthew Rox added a second place finish in the men's long jump at 19' 11" (6.07m).
With the meet done, the Panthers will turn all of their attention to conference competition as the team prepares to take part in the 2022 CIAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet next weekend.
