Lady Panthers Open 2022 CIAA Outdoor Championship Meet with Strong Day
BOWIE, MD - The Claflin University men's and women's track & field teams began their quest for glory when the teams took part in the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Friday afternoon. The Lady Panthers and Panthers got the meet started with some solid performances both in putting points on the scoreboard and securing spots in event finals, tomorrow.
The Lady Panthers made their mark in the field events while also securing a few spots in event finals tomorrow. It was Claflin senior
Zaria Nelson who continued to lead the way for the Lady Panthers as she won the women's shot put. She posted a 13.40m throw to claim the victory On the track, it was freshman
Zoe Adams who continued to lead the way for the Lady Panthers when she took first place in the women's 400m dash to secure her spot in the event finals. She ran a 57.46 in the event to head into the finals as the leader. Adams also secured a spot in the finals of the women's 200m dash with a 25.71. Freshman
Madison McDonald also finished seventh in the women's 1500m run with a 5:19.49 in the event. The Lady Panthers totaled 10 points on the first day of the two-day meet.
The Panthers also had some strong showings as well. Freshman Jocolbi Morgan set a strong tone with a third place finish in the men's long jump. He had a 6.87m jump to place third in the event. On the track, sophomore Chandar Anderson set a strong tone when he placed fifth in the prelims of the men's 400m dash. Sophomore Zion Murry added a second place finish in the men's 800m prelims with a 1:59.12 in the event as well. Freshman Darius Holmes added a fifth place finish in the men's 400m hurdles prelims with a 58.80 to secure his spot in the event finals.
