Claflin Men's Basketball Announces 2022-23 Schedule

ORANGEBURG, SC - Fans of Claflin University men's basketball will have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season. In addition to the team entering a new era under the direction of head coach
Brion Dunlap, the team will face an exciting line up of opponents when they take the floor in the upcoming season.
"We're very excited about the upcoming season. I believe that the schedule that we've been able to put together is going to be competitive," Claflin men's basketball head coach
Brion Dunlap said. "It's going to challenge us. It's going to make us tougher for our conference play and hopefully, it will put us in a situation where we'll be able to compete and hopefully, we will have a chance to be standing in the winner's circle at the end of the day."
Before getting an official start to the 2022-23 season, the Panthers take the court in exhibition action when they take part in the 2022 HBCU PreSeason Basketball Classic. The Panthers will take the court against the Rust College Bearcats on Friday, November 4th. The team will return to action on Saturday when they take on the Johnson University Royals. The season will officially begin in with some tough competition in November. The team will start things off on the road with a pair of exhibition games against Rust College and Johnson University in Orlando, Florida. The team will open the 2022-23 season in a big way when they host the Allen University Yellowjackets on November 14
th. The game will kick off Homecoming week for the Panthers before they host the Morris College Hornets on Saturday, November 19
th. The team will hit the road for the remainder of the month with road games at Mars Hill (November 20
th), Paine (November 22
nd), and Mount Olive (November 28
th).
December will be a much more home friendly month for the Panthers. After opening the month at Coker (December 3
rd), the Panthers will return home for a home game against former Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Paine (December 5
th) and a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opener against the Shaw Bears (December 10
th). The Panthers will hit the road again versus another former SIAC foe, Clark-Atlanta, (December 12
th). After a break for exams, the team will host back-to-back CIAA games against Elizabeth City State (December 15
th) and Virginia State (December 19
th). The Panthers will close out the year on the road when they head to Clayton, Georgia to take on Clayton State on New Year's Eve.
The Panthers will spend much of the January schedule on the road, but there will be a pair of major home games for Panther fans. The team will open the year on the road with a three-game road trip against CIAA Northern Division teams, Virginia Union (January 5
th), Bowie State (January 7
th), and at Lincoln (Pa.) (January 9
th). The Panthers will also open CIAA Southern Division play on the road when the team heads to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on the Livingstone Blue Bears (January 14
th). There will be a great return home for Greek Night when the team hosts the Winston-Salem State University Rams (January 18
th). The Panthers will return to the road for back-to-back CIAA Southern Division games when the head to Raleigh, North Carolina to take Saint Augustine's (January 21
st) and Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on the defending champion Fayetteville State Broncos (January 26
th). The Panthers will close out month in a big way when the team hosts the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in the second annual Paws Up HBCU Classic.
The Panthers will finish the regular season with a thrilling February of play. The team will open the month in a major way when they head to nearby Columbia, South Carolina to take on a familiar foe. The team will open the month against the rival Benedict Tigers (February 2
nd). Though the teams aren't in the same conference anymore, the rivalry is still there. From there, the Panthers will close out the regular season against the CIAA Southern Division. The team will hit the road to take on the Winston-Salem State Rams (February 9
th). The team will return home to host Saint Augustine's before closing home court in a Senior Night game against Fayetteville State. The Panthers will close out the regular season on the road when the team heads to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on Johnson C. Smith. From there, the team will look to the post-season when they take part in the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland.
