ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (16-8, 4-1 CIAA) clicked on all cylinders when the team took a 9-1 win over the Virginia State Trojans (5-12, 3-2 CIAA) to open the third and final day of the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Round Up. The team combined some great hitting with some strong defense to claim the win.
 
The Lady Panthers did a great job at the plate to claim the win. As a team, the Lady Panthers totaled nine hits in the game. Claflin freshman catcher Zecariya Fenwick continued her terrific freshman season, going two-for-four at the plate with two runs scored, and a run batted in (RBI). Senior second base Jasmine Dukes went two-for-three at the plate with three RBI.
 
Claflin senior pitcher Jaelyn Jackson (10-5) took the pitching win. She started the game and threw all six innings of the game. She finished the game with one earned run allowed on just three hits. She also recorded seven strikeouts.
 
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 16-8 overall and 4-1 in CIAA play. The team will close out the 2023 CIAA Round Up against the host Elizabeth City State Vikings.
