Rox, Matthew HS 2021022 Matisse LeePITTSBURGH, PA - On April 14-16th, the Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Super Region Convention was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When the event was held, Claflin University was front and center with one of the University's brightest student-athletes and athletic administrators were both in attendance.

Claflin University senior track & field student-athlete and SAAC president Matthew Rox and Claflin University Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Student Affairs Matisse Lee attended the convention as representatives of the university and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

The three-day convention brought together participants from schools from the Atlantic and East regions to develop plans to better support mental health and the student-athlete voice on their campuses and in their conferences.

Along with more than 150 student-athletes, the convention brought together more than 50 administrators to go through the programming with the student-athletes along with holding their own breakout sessions to discuss and share ideas to improve the student-athlete experience on their campuses. The convention also included speakers, roundtable discussions, and other activities that allowed student-athletes to engage with experts in leadership, mental health, social justice, and the student-athlete voice.

This was the fifth SAAC Super Region Convention since the beginning of the initiative in 2017 and it welcomes attendees from Conference Carolinas, the Gulf South Conferences (GSC), Peach Belt Conference (PBC), South Atlantic Conferences (SAC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), Sunshine State Conference, and the super region's independent schools.
