Four Panthers Earn Spots in USTFCCCA All-Region Team
NEW ORLEANS, LA - After a great season of competition, the honors are coming in for the Claflin University men's outdoor track & field team as four Panthers were named to the 2023 United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic All-Region Team. Members of the Panthers' 4x400m relay team along with freshman
Jaevon Riley earned spots among the top student-athletes in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.
The USTFCCCA All-Region Teams are comprised of student-athletes who rank among the top five in the region in individual events and in the top three in relay events.
For freshman sprinter
Jaevon Riley, the honor is another feather in his cap. He earned a spot for ranking fourth in the region in the men's 400m dash and third in the region in the men's 400m hurdles. His best time of the season came when he ran a 47.91 in the men's 400m dash at the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet. The time earned him a second-place finish in the event. In the men's 400m hurdles, he ran a 52.12 in the men's 400m hurdles at the Lee University Last Chance Meet to place him third in the region. His time in the men's 400m hurdles, Riley was also good enough to earn selection to the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Outdoor Track & field National Championship Meet.
In addition to Riley's great individual efforts this season, the Panthers' 4x400m relay also earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Region team as well. The quartet of Riley, along with junior
Chandar Anderson, fellow freshman
Jonathan Flemister, and junior
Zion Murry comprise the Panthers' 4x400m relay team that ran a 3:11.20 at the 2023 CIAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The time took first place in the event and is the top time in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.
