Three Lady Panthers Named to CIAA All-Conference Team
CHARLOTTE, NC - After another great regular season, the honors began to come in for the Claflin Lady Panthers softball team. On Tuesday, three Lady Panthers were selected for the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball All-Conference Team.
Claflin senior
Jaelyn Jackson was the only Lady Panther to earn first team All-CIAA honors. She earned the spot as the utility position. As a pitcher and designated player, Jackson had a great season. At the plate, she finished the season with a .412 batting average to rank ninth in the conference. She also added 37 runs scored with 28 runs batted in (RBI). As a pitcher, she was dominant, leading the CIAA in earned run average (ERA), wins (14), and strikeouts (131).
Two more Lady Panthers earned second team all-conference honors. Senior
Brenay Howard earned all-conference honors at the outfield position. She earned the spot after posting a .394 batting average with 37 hits in 94 at-bats with four home runs. She also added 44 runs scored with 22 RBI. Freshman
Zecariya Fenwick earned second-team All-CIAA honors as well at the catcher position. She finished the season ranked fourth in the CIAA with a .446 batting average. She totaled 33 runs scored with 33 RBI on 41 hits, including eight doubles, five triples, and two home runs.
The Lady Panthers will begin the 2023 CIAA Softball Championship Tournament, Tuesday afternoon when the team takes on the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in the quarterfinals.
