Claflin Cross Country Teams Open 2023 Season at CSU Buccaneer Invitational
CHARLESTON, SC - The Claflin University men's and women's cross-country teams opened their season in impressive style when the teams took part in the Charleston Southern University Buccaneer Invitational, Friday morning. Taking the course for the first time this season, the Lady Panthers and Panthers put on a strong performance. The Panthers placed sixth at the meet while the Lady Panthers placed seventh.
The Panthers opened the day with a strong performance in the men's 6K run. As a team, the Panthers totaled 194 points. Claflin sophomore Xavier Burrell led the way for the team when he placed 54
th at the meet. He ran a 22:38.2 to earn the placing. Fellow sophomore Jakarriez Sanders added a 57
th place finish when he ran a 23:06.1.
The Lady Panthers were impressive as well. The team totaled 204 points to place seventh in the meet. Claflin freshman Zhaire Mack led the way for the team when she placed 54
th with a 23:10.7 in the women's 4K run. Senior
Jonnica Fuller added a 56
th placed finish when the ran a 23:36.7. Freshman
Jasmine Young came in 58
th with a 25:38.5 while senior
Shekinah Duffin added a 59
th placed finish with a 26:01.3.
The Claflin University men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Friday, September 15
