Lady Panthers Make Strong Return at Gamecock Opener
COLUMBIA, SC - The Claflin University Lady Panthers track & field team started 2024 on a high note with some great showings at the Gamecock Opener this weekend. While the Lady Panthers freshmen had some great performances, the returners put on some great efforts as well.
The young Lady Panthers were especially impressive in the field events. Freshman
Jhnyia Knuckles set the tone with an eighth-place finish in the women's long jump. She recorded a 17' 11" (5.46m) jump. She also added a ninth-place finish in the women's triple jump with a 12
th place finish in the women's triple jump with a 35' 3/75" (10.76m). Fellow freshman
Marlayna McBride added a 13
th place finish in the women's high jump with a 5' 1.25" (1.56m) jump. She also placed ninth in the women's triple jump with a 36'2" (11.02m) jump. McBride also added a 14
th place finish in the women's long jump with a 17' 4.25" (5.29m).
On the track, junior
Jonnica Fuller led the way for the team. She placed 18
th in the women's 400m run with a 1:01.36. Freshman
Layla Spencer added a 28
th place finish in the women's 200m dash with a 26.78.
