Flemister, Riley Run Qualifying Times at Weems-Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, SC - The Claflin University track & field programs continue to prove why they are two of the top programs in the Atlantic region with some terrific performances at the Weems-Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina, this weekend. Both the Lady Panthers and Panthers posted times and marks that placed them among the best on the conference, regional, and national levels.
 
The Panthers added two more sprinters to the list of NCAA Division II provisional qualifiers on the track this weekend. Claflin sophomores Jonathan Flemister and Jaevon Riley both recorded qualifying times at the meet. Flemister ran a 21.21 in the men's 200m dash to rank 17th nationally. Riley ran a 52.15 in the men's 400m hurdles to earn a sixth place national ranking.
 
The Lady Panthers also had some terrific performances at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) level as well. Claflin freshman sprinter Layla Spencer ran the third best time in the CIAA when she placed 17th in the women's 100m dash. Senior sprinter Pheijana Burnside ran the third best time in the CIAA when she placed 14th in the women's 400m hurdles with a 1:07.31. In the women's long jump, freshman Marlayna McBride recorded the top mark with a 38'0.25" (11.59m) leap. Fellow freshman Jhnyia Knuckles placed fourth in the women's triple jump with a 17'10.75" (5.45m) jump.
