Lady Panthers Impress Hometown Crowd at Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic

ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin University men's and women's track & field teams did not disappoint when they competed in front of a hometown crowd at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic hosted by South Carolina State University. The meet, which was the first collegiate track & field meet held in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 12 years took place at the Lorry H. Dawkins Track & Field facility on the campus of South Carolina State University.
 
The Lady Panthers did not disappoint the hometown crowd with several impressive results at the meet. Junior Madison McDonald had the best individual moment on the track when she placed second in the women's 1500m run. She ran a 5:04.45 in the event. The Lady Panthers' relay teams were also great. The Lady Panthers' 4x100m relay team placed fourth with a 47.34 while the Lady Panthers' 4x400m relay team placed third with a 4:04.91. In field events, Claflin freshman Zhaire Mack led the way when she placed fourth in the women's javelin throw with a 115'1" (35.07m) throw. Fellow freshman Marlayna McBride placed third in the women's high jump when she recorded a 5'1" (1.55m) jump.
 
The Panthers had an equally impressive showing at the meet as well. Claflin junior Chandar Anderson placed second in the men's 400m run with a 48.34. Sophomore Reginald Gore placed second in the men's 800m run when he ran a 4:05.41. Junior Jocolbi Morgan added a first place finish at the meet when he recorded a 6'8.75" (2.05m) jump in the men's high jump. The mark was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. He also won the men's long jump with a 23'11.5" (7.30m) leap.
 
The Claflin University men's and women's track & field teams will return to action this weekend when the teams head to Atlanta, Georgia to take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
