Atkinson Earns Second CIAA Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, NC - Claflin University sophomore forward Alex Atkinston will need to make room for another honor as he was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. Monday marks the second time this season that the sophomore has taken home the honor.
Atklinson earned the honor after a terrific week of effort on the court. In a pair of wins for the Panthers, he put on two tremendous defensive performances. At Bluefield State, he recorded a pair of blocks with 10 rebounds, including six defensive rebounds. As impressive as that showing was, he was even better in the team's next game at Virginia State. Against the Trojans, Atkinson once again recorded two blocks with a steal and 15 total rebounds (seven defensive).
With the effort, Atkinson earns his second CIAA Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season. The Panthers will be back in action, tonight when the team heads to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to take on the Elizabeth City State Vikings.
