Lady Panthers and Panthers Return for Great Efforts at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, SC - The Claflin University men's and women's indoor track & field teams continued to prove why they are among the best in the nation with some great performances at the Carolina Challenge.
 
The Lady Panthers had some terrific performances, especially on the track. Sophomore sprinter Jadah Rasool set the tone when she placed second in the women's 60m dash. She recorded a 7.66 in the event. The time is currently the third best in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Fellow sophomore Obiageli Akubude placed third in the women's 400m run with a 58.62. The time is the fifth best in the CIAA. Freshman Jhourni Eason won the women's 60m hurdles with an 8.84. The Lady Panthers' '4x400m relay team also recorded a first place finish with a 3:55.29.
 
In field events, it was sophomore Marlayna McBride who led the way. She placed fourth in the women's triple jump with a 37'11.5"(11.57m) jump. Freshman McKenna Swinton also added a strong performance in the women's shot put. She placed sixth with a 39'0.25" (11.89m) throw.
 
The Panthers continued to prove why they are one of the top teams on the east coast with some great efforts of their own. Claflin junior Jonathan Flemister led the way when he placed third in the men's 60m dash. He ran a 6.83 in the event. The time was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time and leaves him ranked eighth nationally. He also went on to win the men's 200m dash with a 21.30, also an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time and the top time in the CIAA. The Panthers' 4x400m relay team also had a big day when they placed second in the event with a 3:16.00.
 
In field events, senior Jocolbi Morgan continues to lead the way. He won the men's triple jump with a 46'9" (14.25m) jump.  He also placed second in the men's high jump with a 6'5.5" (1.97m) leap.
 
The Lady Panthers and Panthers will be back in action, Saturday, when they head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to take part in the Camel City Invitational.
