Riley Runs Nation's Top Time at Gamecock Opener
COLUMBIA, SC - The Claflin Panthers made a tremendous return to the track, Saturday when the team competed in the Gamecock Opener, hosted by the University of South Carolina. Claflin senior
Jaevon Riley took center stage at the meet when he ran a 46.74, the top NCAA Division II men's 400m time in the nation.
While Riley stole the show, his effort was one of many terrific efforts from the Panthers at the meet. Junior
Ivan Taylor added a second-place finish when he ran a 1:21.80 in the men's 600m run. He also placed fourth in the men's 1000m run with a 2:38.64. Senior
Jakarriez Sanders added a second place finish of his own in the men's mile run. He ran a 4:24.68.
In field events, sophomore
Javonta Simon led the way. He placed 11
th in the men's high jump with a 5'10.75" (1.80m).
The Panthers will return to action next weekend when the team heads to Mill Spring, North Carolina to compete in the Tryon International Winter Invitational.
