NEW ORLEANS, LA - Claflin University senior sprinter Jaevon Riley was named the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Men's National Athlete of the Week, Monday afternoon. Riley earned the honor after running a 46.74 in the men's 400m dash time in the nation at the Gamecock Opener, hosted by the University of South Carolina on Saturday. The time is currently the best in the nation.

The performance was nothing new for Riley who has been a star on the national level throughout his career at Claflin University. He has regularly been ranked among the top sprinters in the nation, including multiple trips to the NCAA Division II National Championship Meets. The highlight of his career came last season when he placed second in the men's 400m hurdles at the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.

Riley and the Panthers will return to action this weekend when the team heads to Mill Spring, North Carolina to compete in the Tryon International Winter Invitational.
