Orangeburg, S.C. - Claflin University Athletics is preparing for another week of competition, with volleyball set for a pair of road trips and men's and women's cross-country returning to the course.
Last week, the Lady Panthers traveled to Bluefield, West Virginia, for a CIAA matchup against Bluefield State. Claflin fell 3-0 to the Big Blue but will have another opportunity to build momentum as conference play continues. The week concluded with the men's and women's cross-country teams competing at the Sand Shark Invitational in Bluffton, South Carolina. The men placed sixth, while the women finished ninth in a field featuring NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA programs from across the South region.
The Lady Panthers begin the week Monday, Oct. 12, with a 6 p.m. conference matchup against the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls at Brayboy Gym in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Claflin will look to make the most of the opportunity against the Golden Bulls before turning its attention to another demanding stretch of conference competition. Following Monday's matchup, Claflin will travel to Ettrick, Virginia, for CIAA Roundup 2, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, through Sunday, Oct. 18. Virginia State University will host the three-day event.
The Lady Panthers will face Lincoln, Virginia Union, Bowie State, Elizabeth City State, Virginia State, and Shaw during the roundup. With six opponents on the slate, the weekend will give Claflin an important opportunity to compete against conference rivals and keep working toward its season goals.
