This Week in Athletics: Panthers Turn the Page to Another Busy Week

Orangeburg, S.C.- The past week was a busy one across Claflin University Athletics, with the volleyball team navigating a demanding stretch of competition that included a conference matchup against Fayetteville State before heading to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for CIAA Roundup 1.
The Lady Panthers battled through seven matches during the week, finishing 2-5 with victories over Lincoln University and Bowie State. Claflin also faced Fayetteville State, Virginia Union, Elizabeth City State, Shaw and Virginia State as the team continued its run through the CIAA schedule.
With another week on the horizon, Claflin Athletics turns its attention to basketball and cross-country while volleyball continues its conference road swing.
CIAA Basketball Media Day
The week gets underway with the 2026 CIAA Basketball Media Day, setting the stage for the upcoming basketball season.
Representing Claflin University will be Head Men's Basketball Coach Brion Dunlap and junior guard Justin Mims, along with Head Women's Basketball Coach Terrance Jenkins and junior forward Olivia Randolph.
The annual event gives coaches and student-athletes an opportunity to preview the upcoming season, discuss expectations, and prepare for another competitive CIAA campaign.
Volleyball Heads to Bluefield State
The Lady Panthers remain on the road in CIAA play when they travel to Bluefield State on Thursday, Oct. 8. Claflin will look to bounce back and return to the win column when it takes on the Big Blue at 6:00 p.m.
The matchup provides the Lady Panthers with another opportunity to build momentum as they continue their conference schedule.
Cross-Country Travels to Bluffton
The week concludes on the road for Claflin cross-country.
The Panthers will travel to Bluffton, South Carolina, for the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by USC Beaufort. The meet will provide Claflin with another opportunity to compete against a strong field as the Panthers continue preparing for the CIAA Championships.
As another busy week begins, Claflin Athletics continues to compete, build, and represent the university across the region. From the hardwood to the volleyball court and the cross-country course, the Panthers are ready for another week of competition.
