COVINGTON, GA - The Claflin Lady Panthers improved to 3-0 when the team took a 10-7 win over the Fort Valley State Wildcats (0-3). The Claflin defense stepped up to fend off a hard-hitting Wildcat team to claim the win.
 
The game turned out to be a high-scoring effort with both teams coming out strong. The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after scoring four third-inning runs. The Lady Panthers would push their lead to seven runs, 10-3, after a home run from junior outfielder Lauryn Foster and a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. From there, the Lady Panthers had to turn to their defense to close out the win. The team held Fort Valley State to just four runs in the final two innings of the game.
 
The Lady Panthers had a solid hitting performance in the game. The team finished the game with nine total hits. Claflin junior catcher Jeniah Williams led the way with a two-for-two performance with a double, two runs scored, and a run batted in (RBI). Foster had a great day as well with a two-for-three batting effort. She finished the game with a home run, four runs scored, and an RBI.
 
Claflin junior Katelynn Grissom (2-0) led the way for the team. She recorded three strikeouts in the win.
 
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 3-0 on the season. The team will return to action later in the day when the team takes on the Southern University Jaguars.
