Lady Panthers Finish Second at 2026 CIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet
MILL SPRING, NC – For the second straight season, the Claflin Lady Panthers recorded the highest finish in school history at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet. The Lady Panthers totaled 123.5 points to finish second at the meet and once again recorded the highest ranked finish at the championship meet.
The Lady Panthers took the second-place finish with some terrific efforts on the track. Claflin sophomore
Morgan Coverson-Springs set the tone with a pair of first place finishes. She won the women's 60m hurdles where she ran an 8.49 in the event. She returned to win the women's 200m dash as well with a 24.17, the 14
th best time in the nation. Also taking a spot atop the podium was sophomore
Brea Childs who won the women's 400m run with a 55.50, the 28
th time in the nation. Junior
Latrice Brown added a first-place finish in the women's 60m dash with a 7.60, an NCAA Division II qualifying time.
There were several other Lady Panthers to reach the podium as well. Freshman Da'Mya Scott placed second in the women's 60m hurdles with an 8.58 while junior
Obiageli Akubude completed the podium sweep with an 8.61. Junior
Jadah Rasool placed second in the women's 60m dash with a 7.62. Childs also added a second place finish in the women' s 200m dash and she was followed by Brown to round out another Claflin podium sweep.
The Lady Panthers' terrific performance carried over into field events with some great showings there as well. Claflin junior
Jhnyia Knuckles won the women's triple jump with a 40' 3.5" (12.28m) mark, the 11
th best time in the nation. Coverson-Springs added a third place finish in the event with a 39' 10.75" (12.16m).
