Lady Panthers Ranked 20th Nationally in Latest USTFCCCA National Poll
NEW ORLEANS, LA - After a terrific start to the outdoor track & field season, the Claflin Lady Panthers have garnered national attention. Currently, the Claflin University Lady Panthers are ranked 20
th in the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rankings. The ranking is based on the team's individual national rankings in various events. Currently, the Lady Panthers have compiled a score of 102.70 to rank among the top teams in the nation.
This season, the Lady Panthers have been especially impressive in sprint events. Claflin sophomore sprinter
Morgan Coverson-Springs leads the way. She is currently ranked third in the nation in the women's 100m hurdles after running a 13.43 at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Central Florida. She is ranked fourth in the nation in the women's 400m hurdles with a 58.78 at the Johnson C. Smith University Collegiate Invitational, and she is a member of the Lady Panthers' 4x100m relay team that is ranked seventh in the nation with a 45.29 at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Central Florida.
While the sprint events grab the headlines, Claflin junior jumper
Jhnyia Knuckles is also leading the way for the Lady Panthers. She is currently ranked ninth in the nation in the women's triple jump after recording a 40' 5.5" (12.33m) mark at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Central Florida.
The Lady Panthers will return home for their next action when they compete in the Sharonda Coleman Singleton Classic hosted by South Carolina State University.
