Lady Panthers Rally for a 10-7 Win Over Shaw

ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (21-11, 10-1 CIAA) claimed their 12th straight win in dramatic fashion when the team took a 10-7 win over the Shaw Lady Bears (6-24, 5-6 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. After falling behind, 7-2, the Lady Panthers stormed back with eight unanswered runs to claim the victory.
 
The game was an evenly matched affair with both teams making some stellar plays from beginning to end. Both teams struck in the second inning. Shaw struck first with an RBI walk to put the Lady Bears on top. The Lady Panthers answered with an RBI groundout from junior Jordan Tolen in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 1-1. The Lady Panthers took a brief 2-1 lead after an RBI single from junior Michaela Cromarty put the team ahead, 2-1.
 
The fourth inning saw lots of action from both teams. Shaw opened things up with six runs in the top of the inning to take a 7-2 lead before the Lady Panthers answered with five fourth innings of their own with five runs to tie the game, 7-7 heading into the sixth inning. The Lady Panthers took control of the game in the sixth inning with three straight extra-base RBI hits gave the Lady Panthers the 10-7 lead. From there, the team turned to its defense when junior Katelynn Grissom struck out the side in the seventh inning to claim the win.
 
As a team, the Lady Panthers compiled 10 hits in the game. Cromarty led the way, going three-for-four at the plate with three runs batted in (RBI). Senior second base Aniyah Jackson went two-for-three with a triple, two runs scored, and two RBI.
 
Grissom (10-5) secured the pitching win. She came in for 3.2 innings and she finished the game with one hit and no runs allowed and six strikeouts. Freshman Aryanna Meadows got the start. She recorded a strikeout.
 
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 21-11 and 10-1 in CIAA play. The two teams would meet later in the day to close out the doubleheader.
