ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (15-11) dominated the Benedict Tigers (8-26), Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Panthers exploded at the plate with 18 runs scored on 14 hits. The team was aided by five Benedict fielding errors in the win.
The Lady Panthers scored at least four runs in each of the four innings that they batted in, including scoring five runs in the first and third innings.
As a team, the Lady Panthers compiled 14 hits. Claflin senior designated player
Aniyah Jackson led the way with a two-for-three batting effort with two runs scored. Junior outfielder
Lauryn Foster went two-for-three at the plate with a double, two runs scored, and a run batted in (RBI). Senior outfielder
MeAuhre Lewis went two-for-three with two runs scored, a triple, and a run batted in (RBI).
Claflin junior
Sydra Pendleton (6-3) got the start and she threw three innings. She recorded three strikeouts with just one run allowed (one earned). Freshman
Shantia Haymer came in for two innings and she recorded two strikeouts with two runs allowed (none earned).
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 16-11 overall. The team will return to action, Friday afternoon, when they host the Livingstone College Blue Bears in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) doubleheader.
