ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Claflin University's Head Coach Brion Dunlap has announced the addition of
Marseilles Brown to the men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach. Brown brings more than 16 years of experience in player development, coaching, mentoring, and basketball training, along with a distinguished background as a former NCAA Division I student-athlete.
Brown joins the Panthers with extensive experience working with athletes at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels. Through his work as the owner and professional skills trainer with Hoops and Life and ProSkills Basketball Training, he has helped hundreds of athletes develop their skills and pursue opportunities at the collegiate and professional levels.
His player development experience includes working with several prominent athletes, including Memphis Grizzlies forward GG Jackson, Toronto Raptors forward Collin Murray-Boyles, and LSU standout Milaysia Fulwiley. Brown also worked out with Jackson during the NBA Combine.
Brown's international experience further highlights the breadth of his basketball background. He served as a lead trainer for the Dwyane Wade Basketball Camp in Shanghai and Beijing, China, and worked with the British Virgin Islands National Team in preparation for Olympic competition.
In addition to his professional training experience, Brown has served as a volunteer coach with Hampton University and the Boo Williams AAU program, where he was part of championship-winning teams.
Brown's coaching philosophy is shaped in part by his successful collegiate playing career. He began his Division I career at the University of Richmond, where he earned CAA Rookie of the Year honors in 1996. During his sophomore season, Richmond captured both the CAA regular-season and conference tournament championships. That season also produced one of the most memorable upsets in NCAA Tournament history. As a No. 14 seed, Richmond defeated No. 3 seed South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Brown later transferred to Hampton University, where he continued his collegiate career as a starting point guard and earned All-Conference honors. He helped Hampton capture both the regular-season and conference tournament championships. Brown was once again part of NCAA Tournament history when Hampton, a No. 15 seed, defeated No. 2 seed Iowa State in the opening round. Those experiences as both a player and a coach have helped shape Brown's approach to developing athletes and building successful teams.
As an assistant coach at Claflin, Brown will assist with player development, practice planning, game preparation, recruiting, mentoring, and the overall development of the Panthers' men's basketball program.
