Jonathan Charles joins the men’s basketball staff at Claflin University as an assistant coach.
Charles comes to the Panthers program after completing an internship with the local Jersey Shore, Pa. YMCA where he was responsible for organizing and running basketball leagues and various work-out classes such as aerobics, Zumba, youth soccer and t-ball.
Before that, Charles served two seasons (2013 and 2014) as the head coach of Central Mountain Youth Football League where he led the team to the championship game in his first season.
Prior to that, Charles began his coaching career in 2012 as an assistant coach with the Central Mountain Junior High School basketball team where he was a skills coach. He also managed to be a fulltime student as well as working as a direct support professional taking care of people with mental disabilities during that period.
His duties will include scouting, recruiting, film, and player individual skill and weight training.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa. Charles played football, basketball and ran track at Martin Luther King High School. In 2014 he received his bachelor’s in Health and Physical Education from Lock Haven University.
